Honey Lime Lip Balm Recipe

 

 

 

 

Summary:

Natural help for Chapped Lips: Moisturize your lips the natural way.  Avoid petroleum based lip balms with this easy to make natural lip balm recipe.  Honey is a natural humectant, attracting moisture to the surface of the skin, and has anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties that made it an early and ancient home remedy for minor cuts and burns.

Honey Lime Lip Balm: natural lip balm recipe

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons grated beeswax
7-8 teaspoons sweet almond oil (or jojoba oil)
1 vitamin E capsule
1 teaspoon honey
5 drops lime essential oil or flavoring

Note - for a firmer balm rather than a softer gloss, add more beeswax if you like a stiff balm).  If you like your gloss sweeter, use more honey.  Jojoba will help with shelf life, not going rancid.

Instructions:

Melt together the jojoba (or sweet almond oil) and beeswax over a doubleboiler over medium heat. Once completely liquefied, remove from heat and add vitamin E. Stir with a pop sickle stick to ensure the mix. Add honey and stir to incorporate.   You may choose to pour your lip balm while still liquid into your containers, but to incorporate the honey evenly through the balm continue to stir until cooled, then place in containers

Vegan Lip Balm Recipe

 

 

 

 

Summary:

Target – Chapped Lips (without animal products!): Try this lip balm recipe for a vegan alternative! Note that the ounces are a weight, not a liquid measure.  (Need a kitchen scale?  You can get one here!)

Ingredients:

vegan lip balm recipe

2 oz Hemp Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, or Almond Oil

1 oz Virgin Coconut Oil

1.2 oz of Candelilla Wax

1/4 tsp. Rosemary Extract

few drops of Vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol)

few drops of essential or flavor oils or a combination (tangerine essential oil, wild berry preserves, wild cherry or cranberry flavor oils.)

Or you can order a Vegan Lip Balm base kit!

Instructions:

Melt the candelilla wax in a pan over low heat. Once melted add the remaining ingredients except for the flavor or essential oils. Heat through and transfer into a microwave container with a pour spout. Add the flavor and/or essential oil – stir well and pour immediately into lip balm tubes or containers. Use a pipette to top off the lip balm tubes. If mixture starts to solidify before you’re finished pouring, heat for a few seconds in the microwave. Recipe makes about 5 ounces of lip balm.

Iced Cranberry Lip Balm Recipe

Iced Cranberry Lip Balm: perfect for the holidays.

Summary:

A mix of cranberries & frost

Ingredients:

2 oz. Beeswax
2 oz. shea butter
2 oz. Jojoba
2 oz. grapeseed oil
1.5 oz Menthol Crystals
24 drops cranberry flavor oil
10 drops vitamin E 1000 IU

Instructions:

In double boiler, warm the grapeseed oil, shea butter, jojoba oil and beeswax until beeswax melts. Stir in the Vitamin E and menthol crystals. Add your flavor oil. Pour into containers.

Tip: This lip balm would be a lovely candidate for colour!  Try ruby red.

Honey Calendula Lip Balm Recipe

Target – Chapped Lips: Honey is a natural humectant, attracting moisture to the surface of the skin, and has anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties that made it an early and ancient home remedy for minor cuts and burns.  Calendula has been used for centuries to treat minor cuts, scrapes, burns and skin irritation.  Calendula is aseptic, meaning it doesn’t kill bacteria, but prevents their growth.  Applied topically, it can stop bleeding and is popular in lip balms targeting chapped lips.

Calendula Honey Lip Balm: sweet healing for chapped lips.

Ingredients:

3 TB jojoba

1 TB beeswax

3 TB shea butter

1 TB calendula oil

2 tsp honey

Cocoa-Mint lip Balm Recipe

Summary:

Ingredients:

Cocoa mint lip balm recipe: a tingly treat for your lips!

1.5 oz. cocoa butter (non-deodorize)

1 oz. beeswax

1.5 oz. shea butter

.01 oz. pure Vitamin E

20 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)

Optional – flavored oil could be added.  Choose a complimentary flavor oil such white chocolate or milk chocolate to go even more chocolatey!

Instructions:

You may wish to less or no peppermint if you don’t like the “tingle” that peppermint leaves behind on your lips (the sensation disappears within a few minutes of application). In a heat proof measuring cup with a lip for pouring, melt together the cocoa butter, shea butter and beeswax over a double boiler . Once the butters and wax have completely liquefied, remove from heat. Stir with a pop sickle stick to ensure the mix. Add Vitamin E and stir to incorporate. Add the essential oil and stir to combine. While mixture remains hot, pour into lip balm containers. You may spill a bit outside the containers as you get used to steadying your hand to pour. If this happens, wait for the mixture to harden and wipe the containers with a clean cloth. Seal, label and enjoy!!
